Exploring Chicago NFMCC
Directions: If you're bringing a car to campus, please indicate this in the registration form. Permits will be provided for free parking in the A4 visitor parking lot, directly across State St. from the Life Sciences Bldg. Also, the A4 lot is free on weekends. People attending MUTAC afterward can pick up a car downtown Wednesday evening, drive to Fermilab, and drop it off at O'Hare or Midway for no additional charge (Hertz, Avis and possibly others). However, you should make your reservations soon as that's a busy convention week in Chicago.
If you arrive during non-traffic hours, a cab ride from O'Hare or Midway is a good option.
At other times, the fastest way to get around in Chicago is by train (referred to as "the L" by Chicagoans since portions of the system are on elevated tracks). For other options, see this page.
People driving in from western suburbs should leave an hour earlier than normal with morning rush-hour traffic in mind.
The downtown area is known as "the Loop" since the elevated tracks form a loop there. Train routes are identified by colors and you can buy a fare card at the airport station.
The stations and hotels mentioned below are marked on the maps on the right.
