Target meeting: 08Jan09, 13:30
1. Introduction: K.Long
2. Review of mechanical design: J.Tarrant
3. Review of power electronics: S.Griffiths
4. Beam loss and particle production - summary:
M.Apollonio
5. Target electronics and DAQ: P.Smith
6. Target software: PH
7.
Summary of main conclusions:
- Mechanical re-design:
- Seek to shorten shaft by moving flange that mates
to bellows to coincide with stator bottom plate;
- Length of shaft (i.e. penetration into beam) to
be reviewed by M.Apollonio and A.Dobbs;
- Agreed:
- Clear requirement to deliver working target
with improved liability for installation in the April shutdown.
Therefore, need to proceed with manufacture straight away to avoid
significant risk of missing the deadline;
- Benefits may accrue from revising the
material at the target tip. To study the implementation of
this now was felt to carry to large a risk of missing the April
deadline. We therefore agreed to study the issue of the
material offered to the beam as a second upgrade;
- Proceed with manufacture of re-designed
mechanism presented. In view of need to begin procurement of
long lead-time items straight away, JT/KL/AN will draft one-page
summary for TB meeting in Harbin summarising proposal;
- Tribologists to be identified and invited to
target-system upgrade review.
- Electrical:
- Additional 'K-type' thermocouples not required on
the chiller.
- Electronics/control upgrade:
- Development of prototype system to go ahead (A.Dobbs/J.Leaver).;
- Proposed schedule for implementation to be
documented and presented in document submitted to target-system
upgrade review.
- Software:
- Further feedback from MICE to be collected at
CM23. Then, implementation plan to be documented and presented in
document submitted to target-system upgrade review.
- Comments from ISIS colleagues at close of meeting:
- D.Findlay: Stated upgrade plan presented is
acceptable to RAL/ISIS and seems to be the right way to go;
- J.Treadgold: Noted that there is little
time before the April shutdown and emphasised that to achieve the
deadline the target team must adopt the design presented as the baseline
and take a single minded approach to constructing the project plan,
identifying decision points, and carrying out the build and QA
procedures defined in the project plan.
